Electric Bike Library

Are you excited to start your e-bike experience? Here is what you need to know.

To rent an e-bike from the Electric Bike Library, certain criteria and procedures must be followed. We strive to make the rental process accessible and inclusive, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the benefits of electric mobility. Please review the following guidelines:

Residency: Renters must be Montbello residents, as our services are tailored specifically to serve the local community.

Age Restrictions: Users must be 18 years or older to independently rent an electric bike. For high school-aged students, a parent or guardian's involvement is required to complete the rental process.

Identification: Renters must provide valid identification, such as a driver's license or identification card, to verify their identity and age.

Payment Authorization: Users are required to provide a credit or debit card to cover incidentals or potential replacement costs in the event of loss or theft of the e-bike.

User Agreement and Liability Waiver: Renters must carefully read, understand, and sign a user agreement and waiver of liability before renting an electric bike. This agreement outlines the responsibilities and obligations of the user during the rental period.

Information Session: Prior to riding away with the e-bike, users are expected to participate in an information session. This session covers essential topics, including proper bike locking techniques to ensure the security of the rented bike. No previous experience with e-bikes is necessary, as the information session is designed to provide guidance and support for riders of all skill levels.

Previous experience with e-bikes is not required. Our goal is to encourage everyone to try out electric bikes and experience the joy of eco-friendly transportation. The Electric Bike Library is a welcoming space for riders of all backgrounds, and our team is available to assist you throughout the rental process.

Service Area

While there are no strict limitations on where you can ride our e-bikes, it's important to consider certain factors that can affect your ability to travel longer distances and the driving range of 40 - 80 miles. These factors impact the range you can achieve with our e-bikes:

  • Average Speed: Riding at a moderate, steady speed helps you cover more distance. Higher speeds require more energy and may result in a shorter range.
  • Riding Mode: Choosing energy-saving modes like eco, sport, or turbo affects power usage. Opting for energy-saving modes allows you to ride longer distances.
  • Stops: The number of stops during your ride affects overall energy consumption. Minimizing unnecessary stops helps you cover more ground.
  • Total Weight: The combined weight of you, the e-bike, and any additional items you carry influences energy usage. Lighter loads require less power and extend your range.
  • Pedaling Speed: Your pedaling speed affects energy consumption. Maintaining a comfortable and consistent pedaling rhythm optimizes energy efficiency.
  • Terrain: Riding uphill or on challenging terrain increases energy consumption. Hills and slopes can reduce the overall distance you can travel.
  • Surface: Riding on different surfaces, such as pavement, gravel, or off-road trails, affects energy efficiency. Smoother surfaces offer less resistance and potentially increase your range.
  • Season: Extreme temperatures, whether hot or cold, can impact battery performance. It's important to note that range may be affected in extreme weather conditions.
  • Wind Conditions: Riding against strong headwinds increases energy usage and reduces your range. Being mindful of wind conditions allows for better ride planning.

By considering these factors, you can better understand the distance you can cover on our e-bikes. Adjust your expectations based on your circumstances and the conditions you encounter to ensure an enjoyable and efficient riding experience.
