Montbello Mobile Food Pantry

Volunteer Highlight

Monica Villelva
Volunteer and Montbello Resident for 16+ years

Q: What would you say to anyone looking to volunteer at the Food Distribution?

A:  Not everyone can be a volunteer because they have a job, but if they can, there is a lot of necessity in our community, and it is a good feeling to help. It is a great program and rain or shine, we are here helping.

Q: Why is this work important to you?

A:  It’s close to my home and with the pandemic there was more necessity and impact. More and more people are learning about the program and attending.

Food Bank Volunteer

Q: What would you say to someone who is looking to volunteer?

A: I would say it is truly something that benefits the community, benefits us all and I’m sure that this is a better use of time than doing nothing. It is really a worthwhile cause.

The more people that come out the better.

Q: What makes this work meaningful?

A: Dealing directly with people that are in need. When I work at the distribution center, we put together boxes and work with agencies, but working with people here is really rewarding.

About the Mobile Food Pantry

Montbello Organizing Committee is a hunger relief partner with Food Bank of the Rockies, whose goal is to bring access to culturally responsive food and tools to empower the community. The mobile distribution provides fresh perishable food items including meat, milk, and produce in a contactless and risk-free form. This is a place where families can receive nourishing food and find resources with other community partners to manage their health. Volunteer Network

Volunteers are an integral part of the Mobile Food Pantry system. Our volunteers have adapted with self-determination in light of unprecedented events, as their role has become even more critical. The core group of volunteers from the Food Bank of the Rockies and the Montbello neighborhood sustain the mobile food pantry. Members from ally organizations also show up and dedicate time to build relationships and engage with clients at the distribution. Our volunteers are leaders who are rooted in the community and stand together to fight food insecurity.
