Lidet Shiferaw

Education Program Manager

Biography

Lidet Shiferaw’s dedication to advancing educational equity took root during her years at DSST Green Valley Ranch for middle and high school, where the significance of equal access to education became evident. Engaging with Students for Education Reform, she actively participated in the 2016 ballot initiative for the Bond and Mill Levy, emphasizing the holistic development of the Whole Child, reinforcing early literacy, and preparing students for future academic and career pursuits.

In parallel, Lidet’s involvement with the DPS WHY (We Hear You) Committee, as part of the student school board, aimed to advocate for a more inclusive curriculum within Denver Public Schools. These early experiences ignited her commitment to addressing educational disparities. She is eager to contribute to ensuring that every student in the Greater Montbello Area receives a high-quality education and ample opportunities for success.

During her time at the University of Denver, Lidet’s role at the Cultural Center focused on enhancing the experience of marginalized identities in higher education. This experience equipped her with valuable skills in project management, social media management, graphic design, budget oversight, and community engagement—aligning seamlessly with MOC’s objectives of effective communication and community outreach.

Additionally, Lidet’s background in healthcare has further cultivated her ability to thrive under pressure and maintain composure in challenging situations. Looking ahead, she aspires to return to nursing school, leveraging the skills developed through her work at MOC and in healthcare to educate the community on the importance of holistic health and address prevailing health inequities.
